What is a LM, CPM scope of practice?

In Texas, a Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) provides comprehensive care for low-risk pregnancies in the out-of-hospital setting, including prenatal, labor and birth, postpartum, and newborn care. Under Texas law and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) rules, planned out-of-hospital birth is appropriate only for pregnancies between 37 weeks 0 days and 42 weeks 0 days gestation, provided no conditions exist that require physician consultation, referral, or transfer of care. Texas LMs practice within their legal scope, consult or refer when care falls outside that scope, and may administer medications and perform procedures authorized by Texas law and administrative rules.
What if an emergency happens?

Midwives are trained to recognize, prevent, and manage emergencies that may arise during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. We carry emergency medications, oxygen, neonatal resuscitation equipment, IV supplies, and other essential emergency equipment in accordance with Texas regulations. If a situation develops that requires a higher level of care, we stabilize the mother and/or baby, activate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when appropriate, and facilitate a timely transfer to the nearest hospital while continuing to provide support and communicate with the receiving healthcare team.
Do you take insurance?

No, Refresh Birth Co. does not charge through insurance. However at the end of your care you can receive an invoice to submit to insurance for potential reimbursement.
Are labs and ultrasounds included in the price?

No, this cost is separate. However, these CAN be billed through insurance.
Is there an option for payment plans?

YES! Refresh Birth Co. will work on payment plans that best fit your family’s needs.
Who will attend my birth?

Your primary midwife, Claire Randall LM, CPM will attend your birth along with a birth assistant. If Claire is out of town or at another birth during delivery a back up midwife will be assigned. Our preferred back up midwife is Jenna Hernandez CNM. If Claire and Jenna are unavailable another community midwife will step in, but this is vary rare!
